The Influence of Nitrate Anions on the Processes of Metal Electrodeposition

Nitrate anions can be effectively reduced on a cathode and in the vicinity of the latter during electrodeposition of a metal. Various species (nitrite, amonia, hydroxide and others) formed as the result of the nitrate reduction are accumulated in the catholite and actively affect the behavior of metal ions depositing on the cathode. The detailed understandning of this influence is important for a great many of deposition processes in electroplating and similar technologies.
