נא לקחת בחשבון את הטקסט המשעמם מטה. ואל תגידו שלא הוזהרתם:

1. כל ניסוי במעבדה חייב להיות רשום ומתועד במחברת מעבדה (laboratory journal, log). ניסוי מכל סוג ולכל מטרה שלא רשום ותואר כהלכה אסור באיסור מוחלט.

An update from Ivium

A couple of months ago I received an e-mail from Danny Shahar (the representative of Ivium in Israel), in which he wrote to me about two interesting facts. The first fact was that Ivium Technologies read my blog. And the second fact was that they have considered my criticism concerning the drawbacks of their software for the fitting of EIS results and updated the software.

בתחילת כל סמסטר אני מסביר לסטודנטים החדשים שלי שלא כדאי לשלוח לי מיילים עם שאלות הקשורות לקורסים שאני מלמד. אם יש לך שאלה, אז יש לגשת אלי ואני אשמח לענות על כל שאלה שרק אוכל. וכל שנה לפני המבחנים נופל עלי גל של מיילים עם שאלות דחופות הקשורות למבחן שהולך להיות אוטוטו. כנראה כדאי שאכתוב כאן הסבר מפורט ואחר כל אשלח לסטודנטים לינק לכתובה זה.

Why do people use large potential ranges in Tafel polarization experiments?

At the conference that I visited some days ago, there were many (more than a dozen) presentations, in which people measured Tafel slopes in for a very large range of potentials. let's say, 0.5-1.0 V cathodically and 1.5-2.5 V anodically relatively to the corrosion potential. Particularly often these very broad potential ranges were used for the Ti / H2O corrosion system.

A month ago we decided to submit a paper for publishing in the Anti-Corrosion Methods and Materials from Emerald Group Publishing. I don't know if it was just a sad coincidence or this is a very weird policy of this journal, but I can now boast of the acquiring of the most negative experience of paper submission in my life. 

Some conversions useful for the corrosion calculations

When we make calculations of the corrosion rates of Mg alloys, we often need to perform some simple conversions. The results are included in essentially any research  paper in the field, while the logics of the development often remains obscured. For that reason I found useful to show the development here.

About the measurement of Tafel slopes

Tafel slopes

The Tafel plot which you can see in the picture, is the most ideal polarization curve that can be. It was built with the data points computed by the Butler-Volmer equation for the following parameters: T = 298K, nc = na = 2 electrons, α = 0.5, io = 10-11 A. Any real polarization curve is 'worse' from the point of view of Tafel analysis.
